We are a small boutique specializing in quality regalia for British car enthusiasts. My name is Chris Jensen and I am Abingdon Love’s chief driver, navigator and pit crew. I grew up with a love for these cars and my first car was a red 1952 MGTD. How did that happen, you ask, in the days of big engine American muscle cars? Ken W. Purdy, an internationally recognized author and authority on classic cars, was a neighbor, friend, mentor and in many ways, a second father. He convinced my widowed mother that the safest car a 16-year-old could drive was an MGTD. Ken said, “he can’t have a gang of kids with him and the MG looks fast, feels fast, but doesn’t go very fast.” Mom bought the idea and we went to NYC to J. S. Inskip on 304 East 64 Street and found a good used TD. And thus, the love affair began. I’ve owned two TDs, a TC an MGA, a Healey 100 and a Bug Eye Sprite. I raced the Bug Eye for ten years in SCCA HP. Certainly, wish I still owned these classics, but life moved on with my wonderful wife of 41 years, two great boys, their wives, and three grandchildren.
All our automotive illustrations are the original artwork work of the late Jack Pumphrey, a world-renowned automotive artist who had been drawing cars, and other transportation subjects since he was a youngster. An extraordinary artist, a friend, and a business partner, Jack passed away on Memorial Day. We will miss him. While we have a large collection of Jack’s illustrations to remember him by, there will be no more new ones. Thank you, Jack, for the happiness and joy that your illustrations provided to all who had the pleasure of viewing them. God Bless you in your new artistic venture.
